We all get acne, even men. Yet women tend to have more opportunities to discuss their skin-care concerns and get educated on how to address them. When we opened up questions to male followers earlier this year, many of their concerns centered around acne. Men can use the same acne-fighting products as women. But to get them started on a good regimen, we asked our expert dermatologists and aestheticians what they’d recommend specifically for male acne and skin.
“When it comes to a man’s skin, one who shaves daily or every other day, coupled with acne, you are looking at very sensitive, inflamed skin,” says celebrity aesthetician Nerida Joy. “Fighting acne, I like to keep it simple. However, you do need a consistent and thorough regimen, especially when dealing with unpredictable acne breakouts.”
From the best face wash to blemish-busting patches, these are the products experts recommend most.
Celebrity makeup artist and aesthetician D’Andre Michael recommends these fast-working treatment pads, and with 90 in a pack for just $8, you can’t lose.

Tretinoin
Miami dermatologist Dr. Deborah Longwill recommends Tretinoin, a vitamin A derivative that treats acne and other skin concerns. Tretinoin is only available with a prescription, so ask your doctor if it’s right for your case.
Michael recommends this celeb-loved FDA-approved LED light therapy device for guaranteed results. It helps treat acne, calm breakouts and restore skin’s appearance.
CeraVe’s acne line supplies tried and true support for acne control while not being too harsh on skin. This gel can be used as a spot treatment or on the full face.
Houston dermatologist Jennifer Segal, MD recommends keeping this head-to-toe cleanser in the shower. It helps control acne on the shoulders, back and buttocks.
Michael recommends this product that can be used to clear the face, chest and back. It contains the highest concentration of benzoyl peroxide that’s obtainable without a prescription.
Dr. Longwill recommends this acne wash from her practice. It’s antibacterial and acne-fighting while still maintaining the skin’s moisture and pH levels.
Michael says this 15-minute treatment helps exfoliate, clean and purify skin. It’s packed with tons of natural ingredients, including Irish moss, Chinese ginseng, kaolin, coconut oil and jojoba.
Joy recommends a handful of Rejuvi products. The Rejuvi k Facial Cleanser ($27) is so calming and gentle you could even use it as shaving gel as well. The Rejuvi Purifying Mask ($27) is a clay-based mask that can be used twice a week. “It has the papaya enzyme, which acts as a mild absorbing exfoliant.”
Joy also loves Rejuvi P Normalizing Cream ($38). “Because there are different types of acne, the P Normalizing Cream comes in different versions. It contains actives such as AHA and urea peroxide,” she says. “Moisturizers for acne skin types are designed to reduce the overabundance of the sebaceous glands (oil), soothe inflammation and lightly hydrate and heal the skin,” says Joy. “Oily skin doesn’t need nourishment, but they do need healing and hydration.”
“I love the CLN products because they are antimicrobial against bacteria, fungi and viruses but are very gentle and easy to use,” says Dr. Segal. “The CLn Acne Cleanser is great and pairs well with the matching CLN moisturizer, making it a simple regimen to follow.”
This mask is formulated to “draw out impurities, exfoliate dead skin, reduce pore size, and stimulate new cell growth,” says Michael. It features 10 percent l-ascorbic acid, pearl powder, grass-fed colostrum and four unique sourced clay.
