The Ancient Massage Method That Uses Meat Cleavers to Relax and Renew

By ·

As far as relaxing massages go, this traditional knife therapy performed in Taipei, Taiwan, looks more terrifying than Zen. Hsiao Mei Fang, the owner of Ancient Art of Knife Therapy Education Center, employs an ancient Chinese method that dates back 2,000 years to provide relaxation, stimulate cell renewal and release bad energy. “Everything has a Yin and a Yang, so instead of using one knife, we use two—it means Yin and Yang,” says Fang. “It will make our cells renew, change our energy and make us more relaxed.”

Fang has been performing this massage technique for more than 13 years and says the knives loosen up the blood vessels and improve circulation. Despite the frightening-looking cleavers, the Center gets many word-of-mouth referrals from loyal clients who swear by the technique. The cost depends on the time and experience of the masseuse, but a one hour massage starts at around 40 dollars. Would you try it?
